Abstract : The Indo-Russian Strategic Partnership has developed upon the foundations of the Indo-Soviet Union special relationship of the Cold War. For historical reasons, India’s relationship with Russia entered a relatively cold period after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Turning to this new century, on the backdrop of Russia’s resurgence and India’s emergence in international affairs, the two countries have begun to reevaluate the significance of each other on their respective strategic chessboards. Since then, they have established a strategic partnership to strengthen their cooperation in politics, economic, military, technology, energy and other areas. But India has not regarded this IndoRussia partnership as an exclusive one in its relations with other powers, and has made no attempts to hide that fact. To give an example, India has, at the same time, enhanced its relations with the United States, among others. And for Russia, it is said to be now entering a “struggle against the U.S. on influencing India”. The stable triangular relations between Russia and Chinain the form of their Strategic Partnership of Cooperationand between India and Chinain their Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperityassures that China sees positive elements in the IndoRussian strategic partnership, and welcomes further strengthening of IndoRussian strategic cooperation.
