Abstract: Following the Cold War, a period of adjustment in Sino-DPRK relations has resulted in the emergence of a new form of trade and commercial cooperation between the two countries. Through an analysis of the characteristics of this cooperation and of the North Korean economy, this paper proposes a conceptual formula for deepening commercial and trade relations between the two countries. On the basis of long term efforts on the part of the two countries and of the international community, flows of production factors might be consciously adjusted using non-market means in order that they might be optimized between the two countries. This would both promote production and economic development within North Korea, while also enhancing trade and commercial cooperation between China and North Korea.
