Anita Desai’s Female Novels and Her Artistic Features

　　Abstract: Anita Desai is one of the most popular contemporary Indian English novelists. Female subject is the primary theme of her literary works. Her skill lies in the delineation of the psychic turmoil of the female characters. From sensitive and neurotic protagonists to independent ones, it reflects women’s changing psychology of independence consciousness in modern Indian society. This paper tries to make analysis of the artistic features of Desai’s female novels with emphases on her narrative patterns, stream of consciousness skill and female writing.
