Shaping Perspectives and Policy: A Comparison of Chinese and Indian Lobbying in the United States

  Abstract: China and India’s methodologies for shaping U.S.domestic politics are rarely addressed and even more infrequently compared.The majority of analysts still tend to describe the impact of the United States on these two rising powers.However, in the field of international relations, the influence of these two countries on domestic decision-making in the United States is increasingly apparent.One classic example of an impact pathway occurs through the activities of lobbying groups.Although both countries frequently utilize this method, their lobbying activities retain a marked degree of difference.

  In accordance with rationalism, all behavior is underpinned by calculations of interest maximization.This paper utilizes case studies to serve as the basis of deductive analysis that explores the lobbying methods of entities in China and India.The author uses these observations to compare and contrast the lobbying of both countries.Finally, the paper explores the origins of Indian lobbying success and offers methods for improving China’s lobbying activities.
