Abstract: Tagore’s visit to China in 1924 was the most influential event in China’s modern cultural history. “Tagore Professor” Sisir Kumar Das with the University of Delhi, in answer to the request of the International University (Visva-Bharati), edited and published Rabindranath Tagore’s Talks in China. The book consists of the lectures delivered by Tagore in 1924 during his visit to China. The present paper, based on overall close reading of the whole text, profoundly rethinks the significance of Tagore’s visit to China. The complicated psychology of China’s local culture to alien culture, effect of alien culture upon local culture as well as the biased attitude of Chinese ideology and culture circles towards alien culture at that time were reflected in such a historical event.
