Abstract: Although Pakistan is China’s “good neighbor, good friend, good partner and good brother”, Chinese academic community fails to investigate theseunique strategic relations thoroughly. This paper analyzes the evolution of Sino-Pakistani relations from 1962 to 1965 against the backdrop of Sino-Indian rivalry, and concludes as follows: (1) for its national security, seeking external allies had been a fundamental objective of Pakistan’s foreign policies in Cold War. Pakistan’s proactive policies towards China and its enduring resistance to American pressure during this period of time served as a most important factor major securing the formation of Sino-Pakistani de facto alliance; (2) on China’s part, its pursuit of modest objectives and rejection of ideological consideration in its policies towards Pakistan also helped to forge this alliance in a significant way.
