ABSTRACT: In 2009 following the emergence of the BRICS configuration, India’s attitude shifted from passive reservation to a genuine enthusiasm, placing greater importance on BRICS cooperation and developing the grouping’s international influence. Through BRICS, India fully expresses its economic, political and security concerns, and its strategic objectives have started to take shape. There are both explicit and implicit elements of India’s BRICS strategy. Ostensibly, India maintains a range of economic objectives, which include: attracting foreign capital from and reduce its trade deficit vis-à-vis other BRICS states, and learning from their developmental lessons. At a deeper level, India seeks to construct an external environment conducive to its development and rise as a great power and amenable to the resolution of its security concerns. India’s strategy towards BRICS is comprehensive, but in order to realize its strategic objectives, it will need to act with decisiveness and efficiency.
