ABSTRACT: The Queen’s Stepwell of India by Dr. Zhu Xintian, who holds a doctorate from the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris, has been published simultaneously in Chinese, English and French in late 2008. She is also a professional photographer and has traveled extensively in India, having done 20 years of research in Indian art, history and archaeology. The book describes the Stepwell at Patan in Gujarat. It has a complete iconography of the Hindu divinities. The architecture of the Stepwell is unique and is one of the fantastic monuments in India. Several apsaras or celestial nymphs are also depicted which lends a magnificent view to the stepwell. All the important divinities have been photographed in color by her and commented for their iconography. She has specially written the book so that this exceptional monument is known all over the world. The UNESCO has classified it as a Patrimoine de l’Humanité.
