ABSTRACT: Rammohan Roy (1772-1833) was not only a great enlightening thinker, and a religious and social reformer in modern India, but also a Vedāntic philosopher. As a matter of fact, he was a forerunner in criticizing and innovating traditional Vedānta and an advocate of Neo-Vedāntism. While having inherited the essence of Vedānta Advaita, his Vedāntic philosophy was of new content and features and therefore laid a theoretic foundation for the development of various Neo-Vedantic philosophic schools in forthcoming years. 
