ABSTRACT: The size of Indian middle class after economic reform has enlarged. Their inner structures and conditions are varied, but their common marks are the consuming behavior in material and speaking English in social culture capital. By contrast with their economic achievement, the political attitude of Indian middle class is criticized: liberalism and conservatism coexist; they lack interest in politics and election; they lack public responsibility and alienate the bottom society. Except for the history, their political attitude has been influenced by Indian modernization and their own characteristics. What happened in recent years in India has proved the middle class can not maintain their own integrity if they don’t change their role and become participants in political reform.
