Pakistan’s Strategic Choices: Islam, Alliance and Offensive-Defence

  ABSTRACT: Pakistan has been facing the external pressure and internal turmoil since it came into existence as a nation.It has formed and developed its strategic choices of Islam, alliance and offensive-defence due to geopolitical environment, system of government, cultural tradition, military, economy and technology. The paper traces the history of three choices, analyzes their limits and contradictions, concluding that Pakistan’s present and future situation is determined by how the Pakistani political elites understand the strategic resources, ability, environment and destiny of Pakistan, and overcome the limits and contradictions of the three choices.
