ABSTRACT: Bangladeshi immigration to India has historical, geographical, political, and economic factors. The huge immigration makes India anxious. India thinks it poses a great threat to India on many aspects, such as political solidarity, economic development, social stability and national security. In order to prevent and fight against the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the government of India takes a series of measures, including repatriation, building fences, constructing boundary roads, increasing boundary watchhouses, and implementing Multi-purpose Identification Card. As Bangladesh refuses to recognize the issue of illegal immigration, diplomatic disputes between the two countries often occur. The illegal immigration issue is increasingly becoming an important element to the development of the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.
