Xu Fancheng and Indian Culture

ABSTRACT: Prof. Xu Fancheng (1909~2000), who stayed and was engaged in academic work for 33 years from 1945 to 1978 in India, was a renowned scholar and translator of great attainments in the area of Sanskrit and Indian religious studies. His translations and studies of the Fifty Upanisad and major works of Sri Aurobindo Ghose made him one of the most outstanding Indologists in modern and contemporary China. He also contributed a lot in disseminating traditional Chinese culture and comparative studies of the cultures of China and India.
