Samādhi State and Practice Method in Yoga-Sūtra

  ABSTRACT: Yoga practice is an important element of Indian religious culture. The Yoga-Sūtra holds a prominent position in the history of Yoga development. Yoga practice aims at achieving the highest state of samādhi. It has expounded the features and main types of samādhi and put forward the basic practice method to reach this state. Such content in the Yoga-Sūtra has close and substantial relationship with ancient Indian religious classics. In the historical development, the Yoga-Sūtra and the scriptures of other schools in ancient India absorbed nourishment from and exerted influenced upon each other. To research and analyze the content in this respect is of positive significance for deeply understanding the characteristics of Indian religious philosophy and promoting the development of oriental culture.
