ABSTRACT: India is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Scholars have studied the reasons for corruption in India, looking at economic and cultural factors, and emphasizing the effects of the country’s inequitable economic system and traditional Hindi religious culture on corruption. In reality, corruption in India also relates closely to its imperfect democratic institutions; India’s lack of checks on power and a regulated party system, public participation targeted at social justice and an incomplete judicial system are all key reasons for corruption in India.
