ABSTRACT: There is a close link between the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the re-construction of Afghanistan, and as such researching the issue of Afghanistan from the perspective of the SCO is critical. Over the past decade, SCO has interacted closely with the process of re-construction in Afghanistan. While the SCO has made a tremendous contribution in terms of stabilizing Afghanistan’s re-construction process, it has also faced considerable obstacles. In 2011, a sudden change in the direction of the re-construction process presented a serious challenge for the SCO. In the future, the re-construction of Afghanistan will continue to be the greatest challenge for the SCO, while also being its greatest opportunity for growth as an organization.
