The History and Significance of the Establishment of Diplomatic Ties between China and Nepal

  ABSTRACT: Nepal is one of China’s important Southeast Asia neighbors, and the people of the two countries have a long history of friendly ties. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, China and Nepal officially established diplomatic relations on August 1, 1955 on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-Existence, and on September 20, 1956 they signed the Sino-Nepal Friendship Treaty which further consolidated and strengthened their bilateral relationship. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal and the signing of the Friendship Treaty played a far reaching and positive role in promoting economic, political and cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
