ABSTRACT: Around the partition of India, there occurred world-shocking communal violence between Hindus and Muslims in South Asia. A number of writers have pondered over and depicted that tragedy. This author has selected three Hindi novels respectively written in a span of more than twenty years after the event, made analysis, after a brief introduction of the content, of their similarities and dissimilarities, and explored the root cause of the communal conflict. He comes to the conclusion that the partition of India resulted from the then religious and political conditions rather than the purposeful arrangement of the British colonial government. 
