Reasons for and Lessons from the Development of India’sSoftware Technology Parks

　　ABSTRACT: The development of India’s software technology parks has taken place against a context of global service outsourcing, an international boom in the development of technology parks, and India’s own economic reforms. As a pioneer in software and service sector outsourcing, India was the first to integrate its special economic zones model with the development of the software industry, and through the government’s strong promotion and the priority it placed on the development of the zone model, software parks in India have developed rapidly. This has greatly enhanced the overall competitiveness of India’s software sector, and provides important lessons for China as it builds its own software parks and leaps ahead in the development of its service outsourcing sector.
