ABSTRACT: The rising great powers of Asia, India and China have a basic economic foundation for establishing a new great power relationship. At present though, the development of their bilateral economic ties lags far behind that of their individual economic relations with other Asian partners, and still represents an obstacle to setting a direction for their new great power relationship. This article attempts a re-interpretation of the China-India economic relationship from a regional perspective, and argues that the two giants have already entered a period of re-calibration of their economic ties. In the future, they must enhance their resolve for policy reform, and proactively work towards establishing and developing new cooperative relations.
