Anti-Colonialism and the Shift in China Policy of the Nehru Government

  ABSTRACT: As China and India moved towards establishing new nations, similar experiences and anti-colonialist demands united the two Asia states. Yet, as their foundation for cooperation was too shallow, artifacts of British colonialism intensified disputes over sovereignty and territory, causing Nehru’s government to shift towards a more hardline and even adversary policy towards China. While there were many reasons for the change in the Nehru government’s China policy, a critical element was the different stance of the two states towards anti-colonialism.
