ABSTRACT: China and Nepal both maintain the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence as the basis for bilateral relations. In August of 1955, China and Nepal established diplomatic relations on the basis of these Principles, and further used the Principles as a basis for friendly negotiations towards resolution of the historical dispute over demarcation of their shared border. This helped strengthen and develop friendly relations between the two states, and became a model for harmonious relations between neighboring countries at large. The establishment, initial development and continuous strengthening of harmonious relations between China and Nepal effectively demonstrate the powerful nature of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence in both theory and in practical application.
